2003 ICED AWARDS ANNOUNCED
SPRINGFIELD, IL. May 20, 2003 –
The State
Interagency Committee on Employees with Disabilities (ICED) today announced the
recipients of its 2003 Awards Program.
ICED is chaired by the Director of the Illinois Department of Human Rights,
Rocco J. Claps, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services,
Carol L. Adams, Ph.D.
The ICED Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held on May
21, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn will present
the awards and recognize the outstanding efforts of the honorees for their
efforts on behalf of individuals with disabilities.
“This year’s recipients have demonstrated commitment to the
committee’s mission of promoting equal employment opportunity and independence
for people with disabilities throughout the state”, said Co-Chair Rocco J.
Claps said.
This year’s honorees include:

“Legislator of the Year”: State Representative Julie Hamos

“Agency
of the Year Awards” will be presented to three state agencies:
The Illinois Department of
Transportation, The State Toll Highway Authority and The Office of Banks and
Real Estate

“Nonprofit
of the Year”: The Mental Health
Centers of Central Illinois
-
“Employee
of the Year” Awards:
Gerald Covell, of the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing Commission and
Audrey McCrimon, of the Department
of Human Services.

“Media
Awards”: Randy Chapman (The Herald
News) and
Jane Boal (WGN News) were selected
to receive.
In addition, the ICED will also present certificates to Paul
Peterson (Illinois Department of Transportation), Daily Mail, Daily Journal,
The Rock Island Argus and Dispatch, Access Living, Chicago Coalition for
the Homeless, Community Mental Health Center, Deborah’s Place, Habilitative
Systems, the Illinois/Iowa Center for Independent Living, Parent’s Alliance,
the Employment Project and the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago
Infinitec Program.
The Interagency Committee, created in 1974, serves state
employees with disabilities through educational and promotional programs,
including an annual conference for employees with disabilities, educational
programming for equal employment opportunity officers, an annual awards
program, and an internship program for college students with disabilities. The Directors of Central Management Services
and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the Chairperson of the Civil
Service Commission, and four state employees with disabilities also serve on
the ICED committee.
