State of Illinois, local officials discuss responsible alcohol service in Galesburg

DATE: June 17, 2009

GALESBURG—With the summer driving season now in full swing – and the 4th of July holiday rapidly approaching – Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) administrators will meet with nearly sixty local officials on Thursday, June 18, 6:00pm in Galesburg City Hall to present strategies for reducing drunk driving on our state’s roads.

Among those in attendance will be mayors, police chiefs, sheriffs, county chairpersons, and state’s attorneys from ten nearby counties. One topic, in particular, will be discussed in detail: the mandating of BASSET alcohol service training in their communities. Also sharing ideas on how to prevent alcohol-related tragedies will be the Illinois State Police and various local officials.

BASSET (Beverage Alcohol Seller/Server Education and Training) is the State of Illinois' certification program for alcohol seller/server education and training. Visit the BASSET Program website for more information on how retailers can serve alcohol responsibly.

This meeting is presented by the ILCC’s public education arm—the Don’t Be Sorry program—which is partially funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety.
