Ms. Illinois American Classic Woman Crowned

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The 13th Annual Ms. Illinois American Classic Woman Pageant winner is Audrey Jones, a 76-year-old mother of five from Elmhurst.

The pageant, held March 14-17, 2002, at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Oakbrook Terrace, is for women age 60 and older. Judges consider interview, stage presence, talent, and life philosophies. The winner travels the state promoting wellness and fitness, and encouraging other adults to become involved in worthwhile activities.

Pageant officials said they were impressed by Jonesí comedy routine and outlook on life. She believes strongly in exercise, maintaining good nutrition and staying active.

"When a person feels good, itís like a domino effect," she said. "Family benefits and the community benefits...Spread the joy you feel."

The retired keypunch operator said her goal is to inspire older people to keep moving and to lead a fuller, richer life. She will represent Illinois in the National American Classic Woman Pageant held in the fall in Dubuque, Iowa.
