John J. Bowman was born in Oak Park on Jan. 13, 1930. He received a B.A. degree in business administration from the University of Illinois and a J.D. degree from John Marshall Law School. He served in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Judge Bowman was in the private practice of law from 1959 to 1973. He was a Deputy Public Defender from 1965 to 1973, State's Attorney of DuPage County from 1973 to 1976, and a judge in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court from 1976 to 1990, when he was elected judge of the Second District Appellate Court. Judge Bowman is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, DuPage County and Illinois Bar Associations and the Illinois Judges' Association. He is single and has five children.
