Joseph Gordon was born in Chicago on Dec. 4,1932. He received his B.A. degree from Roosevelt University in 1954 and his J.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1960. He was a law clerk for Judge Julius Hoffman, Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, from 1960 to 1961. From 1961 to 1964, he was a trial lawyer with the firm of Lord, Bissel and Brook. From 1964 to 1967, he was a trial lawyer with the firm now known as Sachnoff & Weaver, Ltd., and from 1969 until his election to the bench in 1976, he served as its senior litigation partner. He was a full-time professor of law at the John Marshall Law School from 1967 to 1970 and again from 1983 to 1984, serving on its part-time faculty during various other years between 1964 and 1986. He served as judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County from 1976 to 1983 and from 1988 to 1989. Judge Gordon was appointed to the Illinois Appellate Court in 1989 and, subsequently, was elected to continue his service in 1990.
