Individuals interested in employment with the Department of Children and Family Services as a Child Welfare Specialist or Child Protective Investigator should contact the Office of Employee Services to obtain a CMS employment application (CMS-100). Two locations are available:

Once completed, an employment application should be submitted directly to the DCFS Office of Professional Development, 406 East Monroe Street, Station 222, Springfield, Illinois, 62701. Ensure that the application is completed in its entirety, including selection of work county preference.

Applications will be forwarded to the Department of Central Management Services (DCMS), the agency responsible for grading employment applications; DCMS issues grades via mail to the applicants, a process that takes a minimum of two weeks upon DCMS receipt of the application. Open Competitive grades are valid for one year. The applicant is responsible for notifying DCMS of a new address if she/he moves during the course of the year.

DCMS maintains eligible listings of qualified candidates by county preference indicated by the applicant.

The Department of Children and Family Services requests eligible listings from DCMS to fill vacancies for which there are no eligible internal bidders.

All veteran eligible candidates are contacted first to be scheduled for an interview. Non-veteran candidates are scheduled subsequently for interviews
