Inhaler, spacers and nebulizers: An inhaler holds medicine that is often used by the child with asthma to breathe medicine into his lungs. A spacer is placed on the end of the inhaler and helps more of the medication reach the lungs. A nebulizer also helps the medication reach the lungs. The child's primary care physician or asthma specialist generally prescribes these with instructions for their use. (PG 2002.01)
