The Illinois Department of Children and Family
Services is the state agency charged with
safeguarding the welfare of Illinois children.
This broad mission includes an array of social
work activities, ranging from investigating reports
of abuse and neglect, keeping families together by
providing supportive services to ease family
problems, arranging for appropriate substitute care
for children when they must be removed from their
homes, and developing long-term plans for abused and
neglected children.
DCFS staff are involved in a wide variety of other
professional activities which include recruiting and
training foster parents, arranging access to
education, health, and specialized services for
children in care, working with families toward
reunification, arranging adoptions, supervising
services provided by private agencies, and
coordinating with the legal system. We continuously
strive to identify and hire professionals to advance
the mission of this agency.

To apply for any of the below listed titles, or other
titles utilized by DCFS, you must
1) Complete a CMS 100a, Employment Application; here
is the link for a CMS 100a.
2) Once completed, the CMS 100a, is to be submitted directly to the to the Department of Central Management Services (DCMS), the agency responsible for grading employment applications at the CMS address shown at the bottom of the State of Illinois CMS 100a application.
All applications mailed to DCFS Employment Services
in Springfield will be forwarded to the Department of
Central Management Services (DCMS), the agency responsible
for grading employment applications.
3) DCMS will issue grades, via US Post Office mail to
the applicants. This process will take a minimum of two
weeks upon DCMS receipt of the application. Many titles are
graded by position while other titles will require
testing with the Department of Central Management Services.
For example, Clerical titles require testing while Direct
service titles at DCFS are graded based upon the education
and experience listed on the application.
DCMS maintains eligible listings of qualified
candidates by county preference indicated by the applicant.
The Department of Children and Family Services
requests eligible listings from DCMS to fill vacancies for
which there are no eligible internal bidders.
