The Illinois Association of Museums and Museums In the Park joined
forces with the Illinois State Museum for Museum Day in Springfield
on April 11. Together, board members, staff and volunteers from
museums across the state brought a powerful message to our legislators
and other key decision makers that Illinois museums are crucial
to their communities. Thank you to all who participated in this
important advocacy day.
Commit to participating in Museum Day 2014 next Spring! Each
year the date is selected based on the legislative calendar. Typically,
the date is announced sometime in January.
Congratulations Senator Durbin!
Each year, the American Alliance of Museums presents awards
to a few select members of Congress who have demonstrated their
support of museums. This year, Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois
was honored during AAM's Museums Advocacy Day on February 26 at
a special Congressional reception. Other awardees were Senator
Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Representative David McKinley (R-WV), and
Representative John Lewis (D-GA).
Thank you Senator Durbin for your ongoing
support of Illinois museums!

IAM 2013 Economic Impact Statement
Thank you to all the museums who participated in the 2013 Economic
Impact Statement! The survey will be featured in Springfield at
Museum Day 2013 on April 11.
Create both and Education and Economic Impact Statement for your
own museum and bring it to your state legislators. Great how-to
tips for creating your own statements can be found on the American
Alliance of Museums website at http://www.aam.org/advocacy.
