Essay Topics for Non-State Employees
Group 1
- Identify 3 different approaches that you have used to develop a network of contacts outside of your jurisdiction that you can exchange information with concerning emergency management-related issues and describe the level of success that you have had with each.
- Identify and describe a minimum of 3 types of assistance that IEMA could offer following a large-scale disaster impacting your jurisdiction.
- After being notified by IEMA that FEMA will be conducting a Preliminary Damage Assessment in your jurisdiction in three days, please list and describe a total of 3 tasks that your jurisdiction has either already completed or will be asked to complete concerning this Assessment.
- Identify and describe your local jurisdictions EOC, the most recent time it was activated and what actions have been implemented to maximize the benefit of using it.
Group 2
- Identify 3 specific functions that your local emergency management program has current responsibility for and describe how those functions are being addressed.
- Describe the process, and level of success, used by your jurisdiction to complete their most recent hazard analysis and identify the jurisdictional partners that were involved and their level of involvement.
- Identify the five (5) basic phases of emergency management and describe how your jurisdiction approaches each one.
- Describe the process, and level of success, used by your jurisdiction when developing or last revising your current Emergency Operations Plan, and identify the jurisdictional partners that were involved and their level of involvement.
Group 3
- Identify and describe 3 reasons why you would answer "yes" when your chief elected official asks you "Is the Emergency Management Program crucial to our jurisdiction?".
- After a local disaster declaration has been declared in your jurisdiction, identify the document that lists the emergency powers that would be available along with a description of each and the specific position in the jurisdiction that they are available to.
- Identify at least 1 specific piece of state and federal legislation along with how they impact your local jurisdiction concerning emergency management-related issues.
- Identify and describe the 5 exercise planning conferences available within HSEEP.
Group 4
- Identify and describe a minimum of 2 advantages and limitations within the Incident Command System that you have experienced in your jurisdiction.
- Identify 3 activities that your jurisdiction has completed which will assist in the ability of your jurisdiction to operate as efficiently as possible during and following a future large-scale disaster.
- Following a tornado that impacts 1/2 of your jurisdiction, using your local debris management plan, identify all pre-established MOUs, temporary/permanent debris sites and the process of carrying out your debris reduction process.
- Identify and describe a minimum of 3 situations that could occur within your jurisdiction that would promote transitioning from Incident Command to Unified Command.
