IPEM Application Process

Essay Topics for State Employees

    Group 1

    1. Identify 3 different approaches that you have used to develop a network of contacts outside of your agency that you can exchange information with concerning emergency management-related issues and describe the level of success that you have had with each.
    2. Identify and describe a minimum of 3 types of assistance that your agency could offer to either local jurisdictions or other state agencies following a large-scale disaster impacting the State of Illinois.
    3. Indentify and describe the 5 exercise planning conferences available within the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).

    Group 2

    1. Identify 3 specific emergency management-related functions that your agency has current day-to-day responsibility for and describe how those functions are being addressed.
    2. Identify the most recent disaster response that your agency and you specifically were involved with, describe what that involvement was and any lessons that you learned from that involvement.
    3. If your agency is requested to report to the SIRC during an activation, list and describe the specific tasks that your agency would be responsible for along with the process to complete these tasks.

    Group 3

    1. Identify and describe 3 reasons why you would answer "yes" if your director would ask you "Is it crucial for our agency to be an active member of the SIRC when it is activated?".
    2. After a State Disaster Proclamation has been signed by the Governor, identify at least 3 emergency powers available to the Governor that, if used, could impact your agency and describe what that impact could be.
    3. Identify at least 1 specific piece of state and federal legislation and describe how they could impact your agency concerning emergency management-related issues.

    Group 4

    1. Identify and describe a minimum of 2 advantages and limitations within the Incident Command System that you have experienced in your agency.
    2. Identify and describe 3 activities that your agency has completed which could assist in the ability of your agency to operate as efficiently as possible during and following a future large-scale disaster.
    3. Identify and describe a minimum of 3 situations that could occur within the state of Illinois that would promote transitioning from Incident Command to Unified Command.
