METROPOLIS—The State of Illinois and local area officials are partnering on a variety of Red Ribbon Week activities including a meeting for parents on Wednesday, October 26 at 6pm in the Massac County High School Library, 2841 Old Marion Rd. in Metropolis. Refreshments will be served.
Co-hosted by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s (ILCC) Don’t Be Sorry campaign and the Illinois State Police (ISP), Wednesday evening's event includes important information about underage drinking prevention and the role parents can play in deterring teen alcohol use.
Opening the meeting will be Massac County State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst, Metropolis Mayor Billy McDaniel, and Massac County High School Principal Jason Hayes. Then, a panel discussion with prevention, treatment, and law enforcement professionals will focus on the health, mental, social, and legal consequences of underage drinking on both the teens and their parents.
The October 26 parent meeting is just one of numerous activities organized by ILCC staff in southern Illinois during Red Ribbon Week. Other events include student assemblies at high schoools, training opportunities for alcohol sellers/servers, and more.
