Illinois Liquor Control Commission Sponsors Project 21-Phase 2

Education & Training for Alcohol Sellers/Servers

The Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s Under 21 Program in conjunction with the Illinois State Police, the ILCC’s Beverage Alcohol Sellers Servers Education and Training (B.A.S.S.E.T.) program, local police departments and local Liquor Commissioners in Illinois’ largest towns, will participate in PROJECT 21, a comprehensive underage alcohol prevention campaign. This year’s PROJECT 21 seminar will focus on educating and training sellers/servers to serve alcohol responsibly. Each licensee will receive brochures, posters, signage and buttons that send a message to minors that they will not be served in their establishments.

A Project 21 seminar has been scheduled for Charleston for September 17 at 2:00pm at the Charleston City Hall, 520 Jackson Ave. Mayor Coogil will host the program.

The ILCC will use the seminars to: a)explain state laws regarding sales to minors, b)demonstrate how to check ID’s, c)teach intervention/prevention techniques, d)explain how to acquire servers training for employees, e) explain dram shop laws. The Illinois State Police will explain DUI laws and their ACE program.

The Illinois Liquor Control Commission is the state regulatory agency, which ensures that liquor licensees comply with the provisions of the Liquor Control Act. The Commission provides industry education programs which focus on enforcement practices, interpretations of Illinois liquor control laws, reduction programs on illegal sales of alcoholic beverages to minors, and licensed training on responsible server and seller practices. In addition, the ILCC is also designated as the lead agency in developing a strategy for reducing the availability and delivery of tobacco products to minors.
