The QILDRO brochure is designed to assist members when their retirement benefits are being considered for possible division in divorce proceedings. The General Assembly Retirement System of Illinois (GARS) handles inquiries and benefit information requests for divorce purposes. Beginning July 1, 1999, GARS began accepting Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Order or (QILDRO's) entered against GARS members. A QILDRO is a court order that transfers part or all of members retirement benefits or contribution refund to an alternate payee.
